HASANA SHARP
Associate Professor of Philosophy
I teach several subjects — Early Modern Philosophy, Feminist Theory, Philosophy of Race, History of Political Thought, and Political Philosophy — in the Philosophy Department at McGill University. My research focus is Spinoza, and I strive to bring his ideas into conversation with my many interests.
CURRENT RESEARCH
Spinoza and Servitude
I am currently undertaking a SSHRC-funded research project on Spinoza and Servitude. I am interested in how his analyses of human servitude, bondage, and slavery, central to both his ethics and politics, can be understood in relationship to other models. I am also interested in the methodological-ethical question of how we ought to discuss ideas in philosophy that cannot be extricated from human atrocity.
